Keeping With Your Resolution

Keeping With It

Had you ever heard of Quitters Day before? I had not until just recently, when I learned that Quitters Day is the second Friday of January. It is when all of those who make New Year’s Resolutions typically quit that resolution journey. Apparently, a large amount of people quit or give up before this date. This year it was on Friday, January 10th (2025); which I suppose if you had a health, financial, or other important goal, you might as well quite it on a Friday so you can indulge in your old lifestyle during the weekend.

Remember Why You Started

Part of this is sad to me though as I feel many make great resolutions, but lack the will power to follow through with them. And I understand, a lot of the “resolutions” people make are difficult or challenging; if they were easy everyone, or at least you, would already be doing them. I think it is important to keep in mind though that anything worth doing is probably going to be challenging, and many important changes do not happen overnight. You don’t lose 25 pounds in two weeks (naturally or healthy), you don’t great increase your savings, your retirement account, etcetera. The time and commitment is what makes these items impactful and meaningful.

Most Common New Year Resolutions

A company named Statista surveyed 1,050 Americans and according to their survey, the top resolutions are as follows:
1) Save More Money
2) Eat Healthier
3) Exercise More
4) Lose Weight
5) Spend More Time with Friends and Family
6) Quit Smoking

Sticking With Your Resolution

All of these sound to me like noble pursuits. Efforts to make many aspects of your life better. Now, I think that numbers 3 and 4 kind of go hand in hand. My suggestion to those who quit on a pursuit of betterment, ask yourselves why? Why did you quit the journey? Many long term successful groups rely on support systems. I would encourage those of you who need a little extra help or encouragement, to find an accountability partner. Find someone who shares your same goals and is willing to celebrate your wins and successes with you regardless of how big or small. It is the journey of continuance that  is what is most important.

I’m sure that you have heard the saying, that just going/getting to the gym is the hardest part. Well, lets find someone that we can each push (not literally) to get better and become a better version of ourselves in 2025 and each year going forward.

From all of us at the Weinland Team, Happy New Year, and here is to a year of growth, commitment, and excellence.
