NoCo Humane

So many of us in Northern Colorado have a deep love for our pets. Northern Colorado has many businesses that have adapted in recent years and become more pet friendly, particularly in regards to dogs. From allowing them into stores, to handing out treats at the drive through, to having water dishes on restaurant patios outdoors, businesses have become more inclusive of people’s desires to bring their pets with them when they go. In this blog post, we are going to share some of the history about NOCO Humane which used to be known as the Larimer Humane Society. If you are looking to add a pet to your family, this is a great community resource and is definitely a spot to check out.

The merge of Larimer Humane Society and Weld County Humane Society

NOCO Humane is Northern Colorado’s largest animal welfare organization. With its expansion into Weld County, was one of the driving factors in its name change. On June 6, 2023, the Weld County Humane Society announced its plans to dissolve and merge with the Larimer County Humane Society. The dissolution and transition process of this took months for both entities. NOCO Humane however saw the need to still have a location in Larimer County and Weld County to help residents and pets in their respective counties. The Weld County location is at 1620 42nd Street in Evans, and the Larimer location is at 3501 E 71st Street in Loveland. Each location has adoption and surrender issues, so make sure and check NOCO Humane’s website for the most up to date hours and information.

What NoCo Humane Does

In regards to surrendering an animal, they are able to take animals the size of a goat and smaller. According to their website, nearly 7,000 animals pass through their doors each year. All of these animals receive food, vaccinations, medical care, a clean kennel, socialization, walks, and training. As you can imagine, the cost of running this is huge!

Helping NoCo Humane and How They Help You!

On their website, they have a number of ways that you can donate if you feel inclined; but there are other ways to help besides financial. They have several volunteer opportunities to help out and interact with the society in a number of different ways. It seems that they truly want to set future pet owners up to be successful as well with their adoption considerations. They discuss cost, time, your lifestyle, housing situation (the Weinland Team can help!), and family dynamics when it comes to picking a pet. As many know, there is a lot that goes into pet ownership, and if it is your first time, it is nice to have some guidance on what all it entails.

As of the writing of this post, the society has dogs, cats, goats (probably should check with your HOA first), guinea pigs, fish, a turtle, and a rat up for adoption. So, if you are possibly considering looking to get a new pet, check out NOCO Humane, you won’t be disappointed. For more information, check out their website here: https://www.nocohumane.org
