South Side Life

The southern foothills region of Fort Collins is a largely residential area that features a mix of single-family homes, apartments, and townhouses. The neighborhood is home to a mix of families, young professionals, and students from nearby Colorado State University. This area offers a variety of recreational opportunities in the vast natural areas and parks that call this section of FoCo home. Residents of the southwest part of Fort Collins also have easy access to a variety of shopping and dining options. This includes a Weinland Team favorite, Young’s Café Vietnamese Cuisine. Overall, the southwest part of Fort Collins offers a great mix of natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and convenient amenities, making it a desirable place to live for many residents.

About Southwest Fort Collins

Vast Natural Areas

The foothills are teaming with natural areas, but the southern half of the foothills has some of the largest natural areas like Pineridge Natural Area and Cathy Fromme Prairie Natural Area.

Mostly Residential

Majority of the south western section of FoCo is residential properties with a wide variety of single-family homes, apartments, and townhouses.

Architecture

Many of the homes in this area were built in the mid-century style or late 20th century styles. Many of these homes were built from the 1970’s through the early 2000’s.

Schools

This area feeds into Rocky Mountain High School. Due to its proximity to Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, many vet students live in the area. Front Range Community College is located in this section as well. 

Parks and Activities

The southwest part of Fort Collins also features several parks, including the Spring Canyon Community Park, which offers a variety of recreational opportunities including sports fields, a dog park, picnic areas, and a playground. The park also features a paved trail system that connects to other parks in the area.

Horsetooth Reservoir Access

Harmony Road, a major attery in southern Fort Collins, also provides access to  Horsetooth Recreation Area. This makes this part of town ideal for accessing Horsetooth Mountain Open Space and the southern half of Horsetooth Reservoir.

Nationally Known Restaurants and Stores

Many of the restaurant chains and bigger box stores are located along the southern portion of the College Avenue corridor. Maxline Brewing and Young’s Café Vietnamese Cuisine are two of the Weinland Team’s southwest FoCo favorites.
