More 55+ Communities for an Active Way of Life

Colorado’s Next Chapter
There comes a point when you look around your house and start doing a different kind of math.
How many rooms do we actually use? How much of Saturday goes toward the yard? Would we rather spend the morning maintaining the house or getting out and enjoying Colorado?
For many homeowners, those questions don’t come from wanting to slow down. They come from wanting more time for the things they enjoy.
That’s why the arrival of communities like Trilogy® Centerra® by Shea Homes in Loveland is exciting. It adds another option for people who want to stay in Colorado while choosing a home and neighborhood that better fit their next chapter.
Colorado’s Housing Needs Are Changing
Colorado’s reputation often centers on young adventurers, mountain bikes, and ski racks. But the people who love living here are getting older, too.
According to Colorado’s State Demography Office, residents age 60 and older increased from 13% of the state’s population in 2005 to 22% in 2023. That population surpassed 1.3 million in 2023, with the state projecting growth to 1.5 million by 2030. These figures cover a different age group than the 55+ housing market, but they help explain why housing choices for later life deserve more attention.
The need has been building for years. In 2019, Colorado State University’s Institute for the Built Environment identified a gap between Colorado’s growing older population and housing options that support people as they age. Its research called for more affordable, healthy, and safe housing choices.
Age-qualified communities are one part of that broader housing picture. They won’t suit every household or solve every affordability challenge. But expanding the choices available is a welcome step.
Why Active Adult Living Makes Sense Here
For someone who enjoys Colorado’s outdoors, moving into a different home shouldn’t have to mean giving up a favorite way of life.
Picture a morning walk, coffee with a neighbor, and an afternoon with enough room for whatever sounds good. Maybe that’s a bike ride. Maybe it’s gardening, volunteering, or watching the grandkids.

The appeal of a thoughtfully planned 55+ community is that the home, neighborhood, and opportunities to connect can work together.
Depending on the community, buyers may find:
- Main-level living that makes everyday routines more convenient.
- Nearby recreation that makes getting outside easier.
- Shared gathering spaces where meeting neighbors feels natural.
- Activities and clubs that offer ways to try something new.
- Maintenance arrangements that may free up time, depending on what the association actually covers.
“Active” doesn’t have to mean filling every hour. It can simply mean having appealing choices close to home.
Trilogy Centerra Brings a New Option to Loveland
Shea Homes announced Trilogy Centerra in August 2026 as its first Trilogy community in Colorado, located within Kinston at Centerra in Loveland. The announcement described approximately 543 planned homes and anticipated sales beginning in late 2026.

The builder describes single-level homes with optional lofts, ranging from approximately 1,430 to 3,090 square feet. Its community information lists starting pricing around $500,000, subject to current availability and builder updates.
Plans include a private wellness and social club, dining, fitness spaces, a resort-style pool, and pickleball courts. The setting also offers access to Centerra’s trails and natural spaces. These are planned features; buyers should confirm construction schedules, opening dates, and what will be available when they move in.
What interests me most is the additional choice this brings to Northern Colorado. Homeowners considering their next move have another way to evaluate staying near the places and people they already enjoy.
Look Beyond the Model Home
A beautiful model home is a good starting point. Understanding how you would live there is the more useful exercise.
Before choosing any 55+ community, ask:
- What is the full monthly cost? Include association dues, club charges, taxes, insurance, and any other required fees.
- What maintenance is included? Ask specifically about landscaping, snow removal, and exterior responsibilities.
- Which amenities are open today? Separate existing features from future plans.
- What are the age and occupancy requirements? Review the community’s written rules, including guest policies.
- Does the floor plan work for your future needs? Look closely at entrances, stairs, bathrooms, and daily living spaces.
- Does the location fit your life? Consider trips to family, healthcare, shopping, and your favorite activities.
The right home should make ordinary Tuesdays better, too.
More Choices for the Colorado Life You Love
I’m encouraged to see more attention going toward housing that recognizes how people’s needs and interests change.
For some homeowners, staying in their current house will remain the right decision. For others, a 55+ community could offer a useful combination of independence, recreation, and connection.
Having more options makes that decision better.

Curious about Trilogy Centerra or other 55+ living options in Northern Colorado?
I’d be happy to help you understand the differences, review current information, and consider how a move could fit with the sale of your present home.
